Awwducational #002 – Capybara

Master Splinter is that you?!

When you think of rodent you probably think of a mouse, a rat, or a squirrel probably not a 2 foot tall 146lb giant rodent. Well, today’s the day you learn something new. The Capybara is the largest rodent in the world. It can grow up to be as tall as 24 inches and weigh as much as 146lbs. And just like most rodents, it’s a very social animal. It can be found in groups as large as 100, but typically is found in groups of 10-20. It’s closest relatives are guinea pigs and it’s native to South America. They’re also cute as a button.

Capybaras are found by water, it’s a necessity. Their dry skin requires them to be close to standing water so that they can stay healthy. It lives on a diet of the water plant and grasses and also utilizes the water as a way to escape from predators. It has webbed feet that allow it to swim as well as it walks and they can hold their breath up to 5 minutes.

And they also make great pets to people who can dedicate the time and effort to take care of them! You’ll never have to mow the grass again if you have one!
